Giving In

I used to have dreams of perfection. Home cooked meals, clutter free home, toilet paper always available. You know, Better Homes and Garden.

Today, though, when I walked into our bathroom and found an army man stuck headfirst into a tub of lip balm, I gave in. It seems that I am not someone who can do it all, and I'm okay with that. Sometimes my house seems CRAZY - dog barking, kids yelling, clutter on my kitchen table - but I am embracing it. It might be nuts here, but people seem to feel comfortable, and in the end that's all I really care about.

I'm not giving up on those dreams, but I'm going to wait until I care a little more about things being just right.

  1. perfection will happen on the day your maker calls your name. So enjoy the ride. Put on your Dust slippers and glide around the house catching dust bunnies. I gave up the day I saw fleas jumping in the carpet of course we had company and you kiddos thought it was pretty funny. i laugh now and the carpet was thrown out ...simple solution. And you are all grown up and none the worse for it. mom

  2. Dichotomousness is ever the trap of the perfectionist. Don't give into the mess just because the house will never look perfect. Good enough is just that, good enough.
