Refigerator Woes

Today, as I pulled out a jar of peanut butter, I noticed a large amount of dark red gook on the shelf. The gook had firmly cemented many different jars in place. I quickly identified said gook as hoison sauce. I began the clean up.

Here's the thing, though: I will never be finished cleaning the shelves of my refrigerator. The hoison sauce, now gook, will spread and grow and reach crevices that I did not know existed. Next spring I will likely be getting potatoes out of the bottom drawer and find gook holding my apples. The gook can even travel upwards.

I have to say that this is not the worst mess I've had in a fridge - I once kept a bowl of watermelon for an entire year. Gross! Not much is worse than potatoes, either.

So, what's the worst mess you've ever clean out of the fridge?

  1. Sounds yucky...

I think the worst thing I've cleaned is mystery left-overs from who knows how long. I actually have some in my fridge right this minute, but I'm avoiding that task like the plague!

  2. While I have cleaned many a mess out of the fridge, the worst probably being beef blood, by far my FAVORITE fridge story is this.

My mom and I were secretly cleaning out my grandmother's fridge when we pulled out a container full waves. We stared, and stared. Finally my mom said..."It's Bacon."

    " do you know?"

"'s in a Tupperware bacon keeper..."

Now, please pause to consider the amount of preservatives in a pound of raw bacon, and how long it would take said bacon to TURN GREEN in a cold space.

  3. the grossest thing I have ever cleaned out was that watermelon from your fridge! i think i had to walk it all the way to the dumpster. just thinking about that site is making my stomach turn. :(
